Olympic Gold medallist Neeraj Chopra is bowled over by PM Modi’s unpretentious behaviour. Recalling his interaction with the Prime Minister when the latter hosted all athletes and supporting staff at his residence over breakfast, he said that we never felt like we were speaking to the PM. He said that PM Modi was extremely cordial with every person present over there.

Neeraj said that PM Modi knew even personal details about each and every player and who had said what before leaving for the Olympics. He said that such unpretentious behaviour of PM Modi felt very pleasant and natural. He even talked about the transformations taking place in the Indian sporting world.

He further said, “After Narendra Modi Sir became the PM, Indian sports have seen many changes. Like Khelo India. Before participating in any event, we get a lot of support from him. He asks the citizens to cheer for us. This time during the Olympics, things were very different. After returning from the Games, all the athletes received equal respect, irrespective of whether they had won a medal or not. Regardless of the status of medals, he met every athlete, which was very heartening.”
