This comes about 2 weeks after his Twitter following crossed 1 million

Shri Modi’s Google+ page making rapid advances. Crossed 3,00,000 likes in a short span of 6 months!

Days after Shri Narendra Modi crossed 1 million followers on Twitter, Shri Modi’s official Facebook page crossed the magic million figure in the number of likes the page received! Shri Modi joined Facebook in May 2009 and there has been no looking back ever since.

Ever since he joined the forum, Shri Modi has been very active on Facebook- he shares news from Gujarat, its development, his own writings, details about his Yatra et al and shares pictures for netizens. He is also known for updating his Facebook profile page very regularly (atleast 2 times a day) so as to keep the people abreast with all the latest happenings in Gujarat. In the last few months his Facebook presence and using the medium has increased tremendously.

While Twitter puts a cap of 140 characters, Facebook enables one to make elaborate and more personalized posts. Each of his post comes straight from the heart and encapsulates his thoughts at the time of posting. It is this reason that makes Shri Modi the most popular Indian leader on Facebook.

Some of Shri Modi’s recent posts have been extremely well liked by the people. This includes his sharing of pictures when he went to seek his Mother’s blessings and his wishes on Ganesh Utsav. Like on Twitter, he shares an inspiring quote of Swami Vivekananda everyday, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Swami ji. Shri Narendra Modi’s Facebook page generates immense enthusiasm among netizens and every post draws many comments from the readers too.

Social media has become a big part of our lives. Writing in his blog a few months ago, Shri Modi said that this is a medium that has given voice to the common person and has played a great role in setting discourse. He also candidly wrote that he gets to learn a lot from social media and made some wonderful friends through this medium. This is the reason why Shri Modi is called the ‘King of Social Media!’

Unprecedented Success on Google+

Shri Modi’s endeavors on social media extend beyond Twitter and Facebook- he remains the only Indian politician using Google+ as a medium to reach out to well wishers.

He joined Google+ in June 2012 and in a very short span of 6 months more than 3,00,000 people have Shri Modi in their circles. Followers actively like, comment and widely share his posts on Google+.

Historic Google+ Hangout

History was being created on the evening of 31st August 2012 when Shri Narendra Modi interacted with people from across the world in his maiden Google+ Hangout. The Hangout has been termed as a mega success- it was viewed by people from 116 nations and is by the far the biggest Google+ Hangout in India. During the Hangout itself Shri Modi’s website generated 1,66,000 clicks and 70,000 Tweets kept pouring in as the session was in progress.

The Hangout marked a fresh chapter in the usage of social media by our public figures and as usual, it was Shri Modi who set the trend.

A Larger Vision: Integrate Technology in the Working of the Government

Behind this active usage of social media and engaging with people is a grand vision of Shri Narendra Modi that he has achieved wonderfully over the last decade. Shri Modi has indeed pioneered the usage of modern technology and has not stopped there- he has integrated the same in the working of the Government to ensure maximum progress of the people!

For these initiatives he has also received several awards- the Computer Society of India conferred him with the E-Ratna Award in 2011 for contribution in E-Governance and the ICT initiatives at the Chief Minister’s Office have won Award of Excellence at the CSI Nihilent e-Governance Awards 2011. The e-Governance strategies and ICT initiatives of the CMO also won the ‘Best Government to Citizen Initiative of the Year Award’ at the eIndia summit held late last year.

Shri Modi views E-Governance as ‘Easy, effective and economic’ Governance. Some initiatives of the Gujarat Government that have made path breaking use of technology include the ‘E-Gram Vishwa Gram’ Initiative of providing broadband connectivity to the villages of Gujarat and eMPOWER that trains people of Gujarat with essential knowledge of computer and IT.

The state Government’s grievance redressal initiative SWAGAT (State Wide Attention on Grievances by Application of Technology) has wonderfully integrated technology to solve people’s problems.

It is truly great to see leaders like Shri Modi make excellent use of social media and technology to connect with well-wishers from across the world!

PM Modi addresses the Parliament of Guyana
November 21, 2024

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the National Assembly of the Parliament of Guyana today. He is the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. A special session of the Parliament was convened by Hon’ble Speaker Mr. Manzoor Nadir for the address.

In his address, Prime Minister recalled the longstanding historical ties between India and Guyana. He thanked the Guyanese people for the highest Honor of the country bestowed on him. He noted that in spite of the geographical distance between India and Guyana, shared heritage and democracy brought the two nations close together. Underlining the shared democratic ethos and common human-centric approach of the two countries, he noted that these values helped them to progress on an inclusive path.

Prime Minister noted that India’s mantra of ‘Humanity First’ inspires it to amplify the voice of the Global South, including at the recent G-20 Summit in Brazil. India, he further noted, wants to serve humanity as VIshwabandhu, a friend to the world, and this seminal thought has shaped its approach towards the global community where it gives equal importance to all nations-big or small.

Prime Minister called for giving primacy to women-led development to bring greater global progress and prosperity. He urged for greater exchanges between the two countries in the field of education and innovation so that the potential of the youth could be fully realized. Conveying India’s steadfast support to the Caribbean region, he thanked President Ali for hosting the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit. Underscoring India’s deep commitment to further strengthening India-Guyana historical ties, he stated that Guyana could become the bridge of opportunities between India and the Latin American continent. He concluded his address by quoting the great son of Guyana Mr. Chhedi Jagan who had said, "We have to learn from the past and improve our present and prepare a strong foundation for the future.” He invited Guyanese Parliamentarians to visit India.
