PM Modi's meeting with PM of Bhutan

Prime Minister of Bhutan Dr. Lotay Tshering graced the swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister Shri  Narendra Modi on 30th May, 2019.

In the bilateral meeting today, Prime Minister Dr. Lotay Tshering congratulated Prime Minister Modi for his re-assumption of office following an emphatic victory in the recently concluded general elections in India. He also conveyed the felicitations of H.M. the King of Bhutan and the goodwill and wishes of the people of Bhutan to the Prime Minister and people of India.  Prime Minister Dr. Tshering said that he looked forward to continue working closely with PM  Modi and the Government of India. In this regard, he reiterated the invitation for PM  Modi to visit Bhutan at the earliest.  

Prime Minister  Modi warmly thanked the Prime Minister of Bhutan  for his kind gesture of attending the swearing-in ceremony and also for his good wishes. He conveyed that India deeply values its development partnership including co-operation in the hydro-power sector with Bhutan. He reiterated Government of India’s firm commitment to partner Bhutan steadfastly in its quest for greater prosperity and well-being. Prime Minister Modi accepted the invitation to visit Bhutan on mutually convenient dates.

The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, reflecting the spirit of trust, co-operation and understanding that characterize the close and friendly relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid homage today to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue in the historic Promenade Gardens in Georgetown, Guyana. He recalled Bapu’s eternal values of peace and non-violence which continue to guide humanity. The statue was installed in commemoration of Gandhiji’s 100th birth anniversary in 1969.

Prime Minister also paid floral tribute at the Arya Samaj monument located close by. This monument was unveiled in 2011 in commemoration of 100 years of the Arya Samaj movement in Guyana.
