Prime Minister Narendra Modi today interacted with the Indian Community in Nairobi, Kenya. Beginning his address, Shri Narendra Modi thanked President of Kenya, Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta for attending the event. PM Narendra Modi also thanked people of Kenya for the warm reception.

Prime Minister Modi said that in Kenya, he witnessed a mini India. Shri Modi commended the Indian community in Kenya for maintaining contact with their Indian roots despite adversity. The Prime Minister expounded about India-Africa relations. “Africa is very vital for India. Our journeys have been shared. We have nurtured and nourished each other in good and bad times”, added the PM.

Shri Narendra Modi stated that India, as a nation, had always believed in the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ –meaning, the world is one family. Prime Minister Modi praised the role of Indian diaspora. He said that they were the true Ambassadors of India.

The Prime Minister laid out his vision of a developed India and highlighted how the Government was continuously taking steps to take the country to newer heights. The Prime Minister stated that improving the quality of life for the ordinary Indian was the ultimate aim of his Government. “At a time when the world is going through an economic downturn, India is the only bright spot. We have achieved 7.6% growth rate this year and I intend to take it even higher”, the PM remarked.

Prime Minister Modi said good governance was bringing about a positive change in the lives of people in the country. He talked about how using mobile technology governance was being simplified and being made reach every citizen of India. “Through the 'Narendra Modi App' you will get all details about what I am doing and you will also know about the Government”, said the PM. He also highlighted how with the use of ‘Garv App’ one could easily track ongoing rural electrification across the country.

Reposing faith in the youth of India, Shri Modi said that they had the potential to do wonders. “Sixty-five per cent of people in India are below thirty-five years of age. To tap into the energy of our 800 million youth, we have started a new campaign called Start Up India”, he added. PM Modi also talked about Government’s Swachh Bharat and Mudra Yojana.

The Prime Minister mentioned that the world today was facing two critical issues –global warming and terrorism. PM said, “The sooner forces of humanity join hands, the sooner we defeat terrorism.” He also stated that India could show the way when it came to mitigating the menace of climate change.
