Forensic science technology will be used for saving villagers from being victims of various frauds

Chief Minister Narendra Modi while laying foundation stone for the new educational complex of Gujarat Forensic Science University (GFSU) today said the state government will use forensic science technology to save the village people from becoming the victims of frauds like fake fertilizers, seeds, bogus land documents and embezzlement of money.

Chief Minister said the state government has allotted a land of 50,000 square meters for the new complex of Forensic Science University and it will be constructed with the cost of Rs.60 crore. He praised the University for launching world-class courses in the span of just four years and getting the acclamation of a Centre of Excellence.

Gujarat started a specific university for the subject of forensic science at the time when no country had even thought of it. Today, GFSU is running post-graduate courses and over 400 youths are getting training to become forensic science experts which also include 45 percent of candidates from out states. Besides, about 10,000 personnel including judges, police and security agency officials have also been trained by the university.

Chief Minister said the scope of forensic science technology will not be limited to police or judicial probes only but the GFSU will also focus on crime prevention along with crime detection. The world of crime has adopted modern technologies and with it forensic science technology has also played a crucial role in solving complicated cases of crimes, he added.

GFSU has a fingerprint database and psycho profiles of about 4.5 lakh criminals which will be helpful in identifying not only the crime cases but also in detecting in advance the crime patterns and methodologies which may be used by the criminals. This data analysis will prove helpful in taking preventive measures, Mr Modi said.

The state government has also decided to introduce forensic science as a subject in schools just as it did with disaster management, he said.

GFSU Director General Dr J N Vyas said that Mr Modi’s farsighted guidance has proved important for actualizing the objectives of the University.

Minister of State for Home Praful Patel, Additional Chief Secretary Varesh Sinha, DGP Chitranjan Singh were also present on the occasion.
