Former Nepal PM thanks PM Modi for India’s quick assistance in the aftermath of two powerful earthquakes in Nepal

Shri Sher Bahadur Deuba, former Prime Minister of Nepal, called on Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today.

Shri Deuba thanked the Prime Minister for India’s quick reaction and assistance in the aftermath of two powerful earthquakes in Nepal. Shri Deuba appreciated India’s pledge of US$ 1 billion announced at the donors’ conference in Kathmandu in June 2015.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that India is fully committed to supporting Nepal in the reconstruction effort, and commended the people of Nepal for their resilience in facing this grave tragedy.



Shri Deuba briefed the Prime Minister on the developments relating to adoption of a new Constitution in Nepal. The Prime Minister appreciated the recent progress and expressed hope that outstanding issues would be resolved at the earliest, so that the Constitution that is adopted enjoys the support of all sections of the society and helps build an inclusive, stable and prosperous Nepal.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid homage today to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue in the historic Promenade Gardens in Georgetown, Guyana. He recalled Bapu’s eternal values of peace and non-violence which continue to guide humanity. The statue was installed in commemoration of Gandhiji’s 100th birth anniversary in 1969.

Prime Minister also paid floral tribute at the Arya Samaj monument located close by. This monument was unveiled in 2011 in commemoration of 100 years of the Arya Samaj movement in Guyana.
