Appreciates good governance initiatives of Gujarat

A fruitful meeting between Gujarat Chief Minister, Shri Narendra Modi and Amb ass ador of Japan Mr. Akitaka Saiki held in Gandhinagar at Chief Minister’s residence today morning in which a large number of issues were discussed. Both inter acted regarding mutu al p articipation and programmes between Japan and Gujarat including DMIC – DFC A joint venture Indo-Japan progress.

Ambassador of Japan said that Japanese industry and Government are looking forward to increase their involvement, participation and investment in Gujarat. Japanese industry is quite comfortable with the governance and culture of the Gujarat state.

He particularly emphasized the commitment of Japanese Government and industry towards development of Dedicated Freight Corridor and Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor. Ambassador of Japan also expressed that Japan and its companies would be happy to participate in infrastructure projects including desalination based water supply projects.

Chief Minister welcomed the Ambassador of Japan and expressed his keenness to promote Japanese investment in Gujarat. The Chief Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi also expressed his commitment towards making the Japanese industry comfortable in the State. He also reiterated that in this direction, Gujarat Government has planned to set-up two Japanese townships. He also added that two Japanese consortiums are already working on two eco-city projects. He further said that Gujarat Government is keen to promote environment friendly and sustainable urban as well as rural development. On this front, lot of initiatives have been taken which include water conservation, wind and solar energy, waste management etc. The Ambassador of Japan said that he would encourage Japanese companies to study these potentials particularly with a view to transfer the Japanese technology. The Ambassador also said that in this sixtieth year of Indo-Japan bilateral relation there is huge scope for Japan and Gujarat to work together. Chief Minister said that there is a strong traditional and cultural bond between Gujarat and Japan in the form of Buddhism and said that we can build upon this tradition for the welfare of people of the two regions.

During the visit to Gujarat, Ambassador of Japan had visited various places and projects of the State including Sabarmati River front Development Project, Science City, Mundra Port as well as Diamond Industries at Surat. He also visited the Gujarat National Law University and the Sabarmati Ashram. He had interaction with large number of people from the industry as well as officials of Government of Gujarat.

Ambassador of Japan and the accompanying delegation expressed their appreciation for the growth and development in the State of Gujarat. They were particularly impressed with the balanced growth model of the State. They also expressed their appreciation for good quality of life in the State including vibrancy and the cleanliness of the cities.
