Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed a public meeting in Mapusa, Goa. PM Modi started his address by saying “Indeed, coming to Goa amidst all of you fills me with a new energy.” PM Modi iterated that Goa is the birthplace of his role as the head of the publicity committee of BJP which later declared him as a candidate for the Prime Minister’s position for the 2014 general elections.

PM Modi spoke on the role of BJP in the development of Goa. He said, “The BJP government has started a new campaign for infrastructure development. The work of Mopa International Airport is going on at a cost of 3000 crores. Tourists from across the country and the world will now come to Goa more easily, giving a boost to tourism here”. PM Modi added, “At the same time, it will also open avenues for investment.”

Calling out the failures of the opposition, PM Modi said, “Those who were in the chair of Delhi then, remembered Goa only for sightseeing. In 2011, when the Congress government was here, there were about 25 lakh tourists a year visiting Goa. But by the time 2019 came, this number reached more than 80 lakhs”.

Talking about the current state of Goa, PM Modi said, “We are making every effort to fulfil the hopes of the people here and will continue to do so.” PM Modi recognised the effect of the pandemic on Goa’s tourism sector and the role of vaccination to safeguard Goa as a tourist hotspot.

PM Modi spoke on the BJP’s resolution for Goa. “What does Goa mean to us? Governance, Opportunities and Aspirations.” Adding to this, PM Modi said, “We have expanded the scheme to help the MSME sector and small industries and have increased it to Rs 5 lakh crore. A provision of Rs 50,000 crore has been made especially for the hospitality sector.” PM Modi also highlighted that Goa, apart from reaching 100% vaccination, has also reached 100% coverage under Swachh Bharat Mission, 100% under Jal Jeevan Mission and 100% electrification as well.

PM Modi touched upon the significance of reaching 100% in various areas that uplift people socially. PM Modi said, “Reaching 100% beneficiaries means eliminating all scope for discrimination. To reach 100% beneficiaries means eliminating all possibility of appeasement.” PM Modi further added, “When we walk with the goal of 100 per cent, then no one is left out, neither the oppressed, the oppressed, the downtrodden, the tribal, the poor, neither of any religion nor of any society.”

PM Modi spoke on Congress’ selective politics towards the people of Goa and how Goa was left to struggle for 15 years even after India’s independence. PM Modi remarked, “The people of Goa kept fighting for their liberation, but the Congress government did not help them. The Satyagrahis faced bullets, suffered atrocities but the Congress government did not help them. Even Pt. Nehru said that he won’t send the Forces to help those fighting to liberate Goa.”

PM Modi also called out the ulterior motives of few new political parties, PM Modi said, “Some political parties are considering Goa as the launch pad of their personal and political ambitions. Such parties have no idea about the sentiments of the people of Goa.”

Concluding his speech, PM Modi said, “We have seen the work culture of Congress. We have also seen the game of communists. We have also seen ‘Parivarwaad’. And, we have also seen BJP. The biggest strength of BJP are its workers. The welfare of the country, the welfare of countrymen are the core ideals of BJP.”
