The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today unveiled the plaque for the foundation stone of the campus for IIIT Guwahati. In his address on the occasion to students of IIT, NIT and central universities of the North-east, the Prime Minister said the 21st century is the century of knowledge. He said in history, whenever knowledge has been the driving force of the world, India has provided leadership. He added that today India is demographically the youngest country in the world, with young dreams full of energy. He said it is now both a challenge and an opportunity for India, to once again play a leading role in the world.

The Prime Minister said today, most global economic surveys say India is the fastest growing major economy. He said the Union Government has focused on youth with a well thought-out series of initiatives. He mentioned the Government’s efforts towards skill development, the Make in India initiative, and the Start-up movement.

The Prime Minister especially mentioned electronics and defence equipment manufacturing as priority areas.

PM Modi to visit Mauritius from March 11-12, 2025

On the invitation of the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi will pay a State Visit to Mauritius on March 11-12, 2025, to attend the National Day celebrations of Mauritius on 12th March as the Chief Guest. A contingent of Indian Defence Forces will participate in the celebrations along with a ship from the Indian Navy. Prime Minister last visited Mauritius in 2015.

During the visit, Prime Minister will call on the President of Mauritius, meet the Prime Minister, and hold meetings with senior dignitaries and leaders of political parties in Mauritius. Prime Minister will also interact with the members of the Indian-origin community, and inaugurate the Civil Service College and the Area Health Centre, both built with India’s grant assistance. A number of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be exchanged during the visit.

India and Mauritius share a close and special relationship rooted in shared historical, cultural and people to people ties. Further, Mauritius forms an important part of India’s Vision SAGAR, i.e., Security and growth for All in the Region.

The visit will reaffirm the strong and enduring bond between India and Mauritius and reinforce the shared commitment of both countries to enhance the bilateral relationship across all sectors.
