'State Council for Unique Identification Project' has been formed under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi to effectively implement and review the progress of 'Unique Identification Number Scheme' in Gujarat. Today at Gandhinagar, Shri B.B.Nanavati, Deputy Director General of Unique Identification Authority of India and Shri V.N.Mayra, Principal Secretary to General Administration (Planning) Department signed Memorandum of Understanding.
This unique number will be saved in a central database along with the details like photograph, impression of all ten fingers, eye-ball features of the person. The number indicates unique identity of every citizen and not entitles any right or benefits to them. It will just identify a citizen and will not be considered as a proof of citizenship. Citizens will be provided with a number not a card.
Gujarat government has initiated for a quick implementation of the scheme. State government has also formed a unique identification implementation committee under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Shri A.K.Joti.
Assistant Director of Unique Identification Authority Shri Sumanesh Joshi, Shri Tejpal Singh and Gujarat Government's Nodal Officer Shri A.D.Patel was also present on the occasion of signing of MoU.
