Narendra Modi calls upon OBC youth to get education, shun social evils like dowry system and female feticide

Ahmedabad, Monday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today called upon the youth belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) to get rid of social evils like dowry system and female feticide. He also asked the community elders to educate both boys and girls without discrimination, necessary for the uplift of any society.

Mr. Modi was speaking at the first mass marriage ceremony of Akhil Gujarat Thakor Samaj at Visalpur near here. He blessed 168 newly married couples, including 44 orphan daughters. He handed bonds as a token to two girls.

He said that Government has doubled the ‘Kunwarba Mameru’ scheme from Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000 per couple to discourage dowry system.

Prominent among those present at the ceremony included Gujarat Thakor Vikas Board Chairman Punjaji Thakor, State Planning Board Bhupendrasinh Chudasma, MP Natuji Thakor, former Ahmedabad Mayor Kanaji Thakor, MLAs Babubhai Jamnadas Patel and Bhavsinhj.

First such instance that a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will attend the Christmas Celebrations hosted by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) at the CBCI Centre premises, New Delhi at 6:30 PM on 23rd December.

Prime Minister will interact with key leaders from the Christian community, including Cardinals, Bishops and prominent lay leaders of the Church.

This is the first time a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India.

Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) was established in 1944 and is the body which works closest with all the Catholics across India.
