Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugrates Forensic science varsity

Students from across the globe will now be able to get a taste of the excellence of Directorate of Forensic Science (DFS), Gujarat. On Monday, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi launched the academic programmes of Gujarat Forensic Science University (GFSU) in a function at the auditorium of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. The function was presided over by Gujarat High Court chief justice KS Radhakrishnan.

The ceremony was attended by the university students and their parents, forensic experts from all over the country, DFS officials, senior police officials and eminent citizens of the city.

Justice Radhakrishan congratulated DFS for the achievement and stressed upon their role in judiciary. "The paradigm of crime and crime detection has undergone drastic changes in the last decade. Today, internet has reached far and wide, resulting in its misuse. Forensic science has attained the status of a backbone for the judiciary," he said. He also stressed on the need for better crime scene management and forensic expertise for higher conviction rate.

Narendra Modi said, "The world is changing fast. Today, forensic investigators are not only required for crime detection but for many other purposes. Elements of forensics can be used effectively by paramedics who are treating critical cases. Psychological profiling is the buzz word in the corporate sector which uses this technique for employing any senior official," he said. He added that nanotechnology holds the potential to become the future of forensic science.

Dr JM Vyas, director general of DFS, said in his welcome address that setting up of GFSU is a landmark for the science. He said that the university aims at providing trained forensic professionals to the industry

First such instance that a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will attend the Christmas Celebrations hosted by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) at the CBCI Centre premises, New Delhi at 6:30 PM on 23rd December.

Prime Minister will interact with key leaders from the Christian community, including Cardinals, Bishops and prominent lay leaders of the Church.

This is the first time a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India.

Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) was established in 1944 and is the body which works closest with all the Catholics across India.
