Gandhinagar, Thursday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today gave a patient hearing to the leaders of the marchers who met him in a delegation on their arrival here. They handed him a memorandum in connection with the Mahuva cement plant.
The leaders included Mr. Kanubhai Kalsaria, Mr. Chunibhai Vaidya, Ms. Ilaben Pathak and Mr. Praful Senjlia.
The Chief Minister told the delegation that Government of Gujarat had always worked for the interest of the farmers. It was due to the government's agricultural policies during the last one decade that Gujarat registered the country's highest growth rate of 9.6 per cent in the agriculture sector. In such a situation, the government was committed to ensure the farmer or the farm sector should not suffer and to make the farmers and the rural sector the partners of development, and it would remain so in the future, too.
Referring to the memorandum, the Chief Minister said that since the entire issue is under the judicial process, the state government would take appropriate steps as per the law and judicial process.
As a goodwill gesture, the Chief Minister offered roadways buses for the marchers to return.
