Congress party has no internal democracy and cannot be expected to adhere to the ideals of democracy: PM Modi

Speaking at a programme on Emergency in Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched scathing attack on the Congress party for imposing Emergency and turning the country into a jail.

Shri Modi said, “Today's youth do not have an idea of what happened during Emergency. They will not realise the how living without freedoms can be. They must be made aware of what happened during those days.”

Prime Minister Modi assailed the Congress for spreading fear and rumours among people. He said, “Whenever the family has feared losing its position, it keeps shouting that the Country is in crisis and there is an atmosphere of fear.”

“They never imagined that a charge of corruption could be framed against them in Court and they would have to take bail. Hence, they are trying to scare the judiciary by bringing an impeachment motion. Their mentality now is the same as it was during Emergency”, he added.

“The party which has no internal democracy cannot be expected to adhere to the ideals of democracy” Shri Modi added.

November 21, 2024

Prime Minister visited the Indian Arrival monument at Monument Gardens in Georgetown today. He was accompanied by PM of Guyana Brig (Retd) Mark Phillips. An ensemble of Tassa Drums welcomed Prime Minister as he paid floral tribute at the Arrival Monument. Paying homage at the monument, Prime Minister recalled the struggle and sacrifices of Indian diaspora and their pivotal contribution to preserving and promoting Indian culture and tradition in Guyana. He planted a Bel Patra sapling at the monument.

The monument is a replica of the first ship which arrived in Guyana in 1838 bringing indentured migrants from India. It was gifted by India to the people of Guyana in 1991.
