PM urges industry to be more proactive towards the cause of sanitation, as part of their CSR initiatives
PM urges FICCI to motivate Indian Industry to work towards growth in key sectors such as agro-products, textiles & defence manufacturing

An 11-member delegation from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry – FICCI – called on the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi today.

Members of the delegation appreciated various steps taken by the Union Government to improve ease of doing business, and for the "Make in India" initiative.

The Prime Minister was also informed of the launch of the India Sanitation Coalition, under the aegis of FICCI. The Prime Minister urged Industry to be more proactive towards the cause of sanitation, as part of their CSR initiatives.



The Prime Minister urged FICCI to motivate Indian Industry to work towards growth in key sectors such as agro-products, textiles and defence related manufacturing. He also urged Industry leaders to take advantage of the various initiatives being taken by the Union Government for the infrastructure sector, including railways.

PM Modi visits the Indian Arrival Monument

Prime Minister visited the Indian Arrival monument at Monument Gardens in Georgetown today. He was accompanied by PM of Guyana Brig (Retd) Mark Phillips. An ensemble of Tassa Drums welcomed Prime Minister as he paid floral tribute at the Arrival Monument. Paying homage at the monument, Prime Minister recalled the struggle and sacrifices of Indian diaspora and their pivotal contribution to preserving and promoting Indian culture and tradition in Guyana. He planted a Bel Patra sapling at the monument.

The monument is a replica of the first ship which arrived in Guyana in 1838 bringing indentured migrants from India. It was gifted by India to the people of Guyana in 1991.
