Gujarat has not registered a single polio case since 2007: Shri Modi

 

Shri Narendra Modi kicked off the Polio Immunization Drive on Sunday morning in Gandhinagar. Extending his best wishes for the drive, the Chief Minister said this is the first Sunday of the drive and he urged people to consider this drive as an act of social service. “We should work shoulder to shoulder and ensure that no child is left behind.”

Shri Modi shared that it is a matter of great joy that Gujarat has not seen a single case of polio since 2007 and expressed his commitment to eradicate polio from the face of Gujarat. He further shared that just like during elections where thousands of officials go and work at thousands of booths across the state, there are over 30,000 booths for the drive and over 1.25 lakh people are working to make the drive a success.

The Chief Minister pointed out that due to this drive, lakhs of children get healthy lives. He recalled that earlier due to polio the entire family was affected but this has changed now. Shri Modi said that over 75 children will be been given the drops and the Government is making an effort to take it to every corner of Gujarat.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid homage today to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue in the historic Promenade Gardens in Georgetown, Guyana. He recalled Bapu’s eternal values of peace and non-violence which continue to guide humanity. The statue was installed in commemoration of Gandhiji’s 100th birth anniversary in 1969.

Prime Minister also paid floral tribute at the Arya Samaj monument located close by. This monument was unveiled in 2011 in commemoration of 100 years of the Arya Samaj movement in Guyana.
