Mr Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India (U.I.D.A.I), called on Chief Minister Mr Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar today and has praised the initiatives taken by the State Government for implementing the UNIQUE ID project in the State. UIDAI and Gujarat Government would jointly implement the project, he added.

Gujarat Government is committed to evolve a model through which all the scheme benefits and services can be made available to common man in a totally transparent manner, said Mr Modi. Various aspects related to the project were discussed during the one and half hour meeting.

Responding to Chief Minister's suggestion, Mr Nilekani showed his readiness to arrange a workshop for Gujarat's team. CM laid great emphasis on taking advantage of technological features inbuilt in the project so that the human resource can be utilized to its optimum capacity. Due care is to be taken for preserving the national interests, added CM. Safety of property and human rights is to considered while implementing the project.

Today's meet is likely to open up new avenues in public service, particularly the multiple utility aspects of the UNIQUE ID project in a much broader sense.

Additional Chief Secretary Mr V.N.Mayara, Principal Secretary to CM Mr K.Kailasnathan and top officials were present.
