Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s school teacher, Shri Sombhai Patel, fondly remembered how he honoured his teachers in 2005 after becoming the Gujarat CM. In a video, Shri Patel mentioned about the respect and affection that Shri Modi has for his Gurus.

Shri Patel said, “In 2005, Narendrabhai, for all his school teachers, had organised a programme in Ahmedabad called the Guru Vandana. He had invited around 27 teachers. He walked up to every teacher and addressed them by their names, bowed down in front of them, garlanded them and honoured all the teachers.”

According to Shri Somnath Patel, then Gujarat Governor, Pt. Nawal Kishore Sharma, who was the chief guest, had said that it was an extraordinary programme which never happened anywhere in India before. “The Governor said that Narendrabhai has organised this programme to honour his teachers. Such a programme is unseen and unheard of in the entire country,” Shri Somnath Patel added.
