PM’s bilateral engagements at Nay Pyi Taw – Nov 13, 2014

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had four meetings today at Nay Pyi Taw, in addition to the East Asia Summit. He met the Prime Minister of Russia Mr. Dmitry Medvedev, the President of the Philippines Mr. Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino III, the Premier of the People's Republic of China Mr. Li Keqiang, and the President of Indonesia Mr. Joko Widodo.

During his meeting with Mr. Medvedev, the Prime Minister recalled his visit to Russia in 2001, and expressed confidence that India-Russia ties will be further strengthened. Prime Minister Medvedev described India as a close and valued partner, and said the two countries were cooperating in many different areas. Both sides said that federal units of the two countries (states/regions) should cooperate more with each other.

During his meeting with the Prime Minister, President Benigno Aquino assured Shri Narendra Modi that the internal process for signing the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement was well underway.

During his meeting with the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the recent visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping will be remembered as a memorable visit. The Chinese Premier described President Xinping's visit as a high success. He invited the Prime Minister to visit China, saying he looks forward to seeing Shri Narendra Modi in Beijing.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Indonesian President, Mr. Joko Widodo on his win, and taking over as President.

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi lauded the passing of amendments proposed to Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Act 1948 in Rajya Sabha today. He remarked that it was an important legislation which will boost energy security and also contribute to a prosperous India.

Responding to a post on X by Union Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Shri Modi wrote:
