The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has expressed shock over the fire tragedy which happened at a temple in Kollam district of Kerala. Shri Modi said that he will be reaching Kerala soon to take stock of the situation arising due to the unfortunate tragedy.

" Fire at temple in Kollam is heart-rending and shocking beyond words. My thoughts are with families of the deceased & prayers with the injured.

Spoke to CM Oommen Chandy about the fire at a temple in Kollam. Arranging for immediate shifting of those critically injured via helicopter.

Have also asked my Cabinet colleague and Health Minister JPNadda to immediately reach the site of the fire tragedy in Kollam.

I will be reaching Kerala soon to take stock of the situation arising due to the unfortunate fire tragedy in Kollam", the Prime Minister said.

First such instance that a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will attend the Christmas Celebrations hosted by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) at the CBCI Centre premises, New Delhi at 6:30 PM on 23rd December.

Prime Minister will interact with key leaders from the Christian community, including Cardinals, Bishops and prominent lay leaders of the Church.

This is the first time a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India.

Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) was established in 1944 and is the body which works closest with all the Catholics across India.
