North Gujarat and Shri Modi: A bond that goes back deep in time
North Gujarat is a region that is extremely close to Shri Modi. It was in Vadnagar, in Mehsana District where Shri Modi was born and spent his formative years. During the Vivekananda Yuva Vikas Yatra, Shri Modi often spoke about how he felt as if he is coming home when he visits North Gujarat and even the support the Yatra generated in North Gujarat was wonderful.
This was a region that was earlier famous for dust storms. Today, North Gujarat has been transformed itself as a hub for development in virtually every field.
Till a decade ago, one could never have imagined North Gujarat being known for agriculture but it is a farmer from Banaskantha district who created a record by producing 87 ton/hectare potatoes! Today agriculture is thriving in this region.
Earlier this year Shri Modi dedicated to the nation the country’s largest solar park that produce 600 MW solar power in Charanka in Mehsana District. Who could have imagined the barren lands of North Gujarat taking such a giant leap in providing renewable energy to our nation! |
Industry has come in equal measure. North Gujarat will be home to India’s biggest food processing plant and Shri Modi envisions this region as a food-processing hub in its own right. If Gujarat is poised to becoming an auto hub, North Gujarat has a major contribution in this historic transformation.
