The Gujarat Government tableau at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on January 26, 2011 will depict the ‘Buddhist Heritage in Gujarat’.

While a group of monks will be walking in front of the tableau, to be humming with the signature tune ‘Buddham Sharanam Gachchami…”

The tableau tries to portray the rich heritage of Buddhism present in the various form of across Gujarat, propagating the Buddhist teachings of non-violence and universal brotherhood since ancient times.

The tableau prominently displays a replicas of 4th Century Buddha statue found in Dev-ni-mori, along with the Buddhist ‘mudras’ (symbols) found at Vadnagar underneath the statue and a bust of Buddha in meditation.

It will be followed by replicas of ‘Interi Pithika’, made of molded bricks found at Vadnagar and preserved in a golden casket at Dev-ni-mori, carrying small quantity of the ashes of the Lord Buddha in the urn. The ‘Pithikas’ are scripted in Buddhist symbols along with a stone edict of King Ashoka as mentioned by the Chinese traveler Hiuen Tsang.

In the rear end of the tableau is a model of ‘Khanbhalida Cave found near Rajkot, with sculptures of Buddha, Varadtara, Dharanmata and Vrajpani.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has highlighted the remarkable progress in expanding Metro connectivity across India and its pivotal role in transforming urban transport and improving the ‘Ease of Living’ for millions of citizens.
