PM visits Queensland University of Technology at Brisbane

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today visited the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane, Australia, where he interacted with scientists related to the field of agriculture and bio-sciences. He also interacted with young students.

He was given a presentation of a special robot called "AgBot" which has agricultural applications. Writing on the AgBot, the Prime Minister said research is the mother of development, and is intrinsically linked to the development journey of mankind.

He said agriculture would benefit from the use of science and technology. He congratulated the scientists at QUT and wished them well.

The Prime Minister was also given a presentation on the Integrated Biofuels Project, under which cutting-edge, collaborative research is being carried out as part of the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund Grand Challenge Initiative. He visited the glasshouse at the University, where iron-fortified bananas are being developed, which could prove very useful in developing countries where iron-deficiency affects a large number of people.

Interacting with students at the venue, the Prime Minister said he is fortunate to be meeting them on the 125th birth anniversary of India`s first Prime Minister, Shri Jawaharlal Nehru.
