Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed a huge farmers rally gathering in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Speaking at the event, Shri Modi said that our farmers were the pride of our nation. The PM urged all state governments to accord top priority to agriculture and welfare of farmers. He also laid out the government’s vision of doubling the income of farmers by 2022.
Shri Narendra Modi stated that for the welfare of the farmers, industries as well as the services sector were important as they offered several opportunities. The PM also urged the farmers to plant more trees and focus on animal husbandry along with traditional practices of agriculture.
The Prime Minister mentioned that water management was also vital for the agriculture sector to flourish. He said that the Union Government accorded priority to water management. He highlighted several aspects of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana that aimed at strengthening the agriculture infrastructure.
Shri Modi said that ‘jal’ as well as ‘jameen’, both were key elements of agriculture and must be taken care of. Shri Modi spoke about the Soil Health card and Government’s aim to make the benefits of the scheme reach every farmer. The PM also said that Government’s move of neem coating urea had benefitted the farmers as well as boosted the yield.
Highlighting the benefits of the newly launched Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the PM said that the crop insurance scheme was a ‘Suraksha kavach’ for the farmers. He said that it was different frmom the earlier schemes and would prove more beneficial for the farmers of the country. He shed light on various aspects of the scheme and urged more and more farmers to join the crop insurance scheme so that benefits could reach them in times of distress.
