On the morning of Friday 7th June 2013 Shri Narendra Modi condoled the passing away of Finance Minister Shri P Chidambaram’s mother, Smt. Lakshmi Palaniappan. Smt. Lakshmi Palaniappan passed away in Chennai this morning.

Speaking after landing in Goa, where he will attend the BJP Office Bearers and National Executive Meet in the coming 2 days, Shri Modi said, “When I was leaving from Ahmedabad I got to know that the Finance Minister, Shri P Chidambaram’s mother has passed away. I pray to Almighty that her soul rests in peace and my condolences to the entire family. May God give them strength.”

Before leaving for Goa the Chief Minister had Tweeted, “Sad to know about demise of Shri P Chidambaram's mother, Smt. Lakshmi Palaniappan. My condolences to the family. May her soul rest in peace.”

First such instance that a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will attend the Christmas Celebrations hosted by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) at the CBCI Centre premises, New Delhi at 6:30 PM on 23rd December.

Prime Minister will interact with key leaders from the Christian community, including Cardinals, Bishops and prominent lay leaders of the Church.

This is the first time a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India.

Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) was established in 1944 and is the body which works closest with all the Catholics across India.
