On the morning of 17th September 2012, Shri Narendra Modi addressed a gathering of the Vivekananda Yuva Parishad in Rajkot. Shri Modi thanked everyone for the large number of wishes he has been receiving through the day being his birthday. The Chief Minister delivered an inspiring speech in which he spoke about Gujarat’s efforts towards strengthening the Yuva Shakti. He categorically opposed FDI in retail, as it would adversely affect the state’s youth.
During the occasion Shri Modi felicitated Olympic medal winner Mr. Gagan Narang and cricketers Ravindra Jadeja and Cheteshwar Pujara. He presented sports kits to various youngsters.
Shri Modi paid rich tributes to Swami Vivekananda and pointed out that at the age of 25 he dreamt of an India that would adorn the mantle of the world leadership. He recalled Swami Vivekananda’s speech to the World’s parliament of Religions on 11th September 1893 and affirmed that had the world accepted the message of that 9/11, the gruesome 9/11 in 2001 would never have happened. Shri Modi stated that with the words “Brothers and Sisters of America”, Swami Vivekananda drew the world’s attention to India.
The Chief Minister stated that everyone expected the 21st century to be India’s century but unfortunately this dream of Swami Vivekananda has not been fulfilled. Giving an opportune example, Shri Modi said that for 48 hours the nation was in darkness as 60 crore people had to live without electricity, hospitals were shut, operations were left incomplete- what picture would that paint of India’s to the world? Yet, Shri Modi said that there was another news that went out- when the nation was in darkness Gujarat continues to shine.
Shri Modi affirmed that Gujarat is trying to make a place for itself in the field of sports. The state has announced the setting up of a sports university and the Chief Minister declared that every district would soon have a sports school. Shri Modi further spoke about the success of the Khel Mahakumbh in getting 18 lakh people to play. He congratulated Mr. Gagan Narang and informed the gathering that he has promised his full support in strengthening sports in Gujarat and expressed hope that Mr. Narang’s experience will surely benefit the state.
Opposing the FDI in retail, Shri Modi pointed that this is a move that will adversely affect the youth. He said that Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has been called Singham 2 times- once when he signed the Nuclear Deal and the second is right now. But, he added that this move would put our manufactures to a great disadvantage and create joblessness. He said that the lack of a level playing field will affect India. He opined that in China, free labour is possible but not here. He asked the audience to imagine what would happen to those selling pencils, erasers, notebooks, spices just because our Prime Minister wants to appease foreign Sultanate.
“Whose fortunes are you trying to change?” this was the direct question Shri Modi posed to the Prime Minister! He came down heavily on the Congress for repeatedly betraying the trust of the people. He pointed out that in their 2004 manifesto the Congress promised jobs to 1 crore youngsters but the Central data of the last 5 years revealed that it is Gujarat that provided 72% of the jobs created. Similarly, in 2009 the Congress said that a youngster in every family will get a job but nothing of that sort happened. The Congress promised to remove poverty but that too did not happen.
The Chief Minister asked Dr. Manmohan Singh that if the Government knows they cannot do it why the false promise? He further said that it is not about success or failure but about the trust of the people. He stated that the Congress has disappointed India due to which this is seen as a drowning century for India and opined that it is Congress votebank politics that is destroying the nation.
Commenting on the statement by a Congress leader that Shri Modi is not comparable with AICC General Secretary Shri Rahul Gandhi because he is a state leader while Shri Gandhi is a national leader, Shri Modi said that he accepts 50% of the statement with pride- he is very proud to be the leader of Gujarat and serving its people. But, he rejected the other half of the statement and added that Shri Rahul Gandhi is not a national but an international leader who can win elections both in India as well as Italy!
In his speech, the Chief Minister spoke about some of the initiatives of Gujarat Government. He shared that over 3.5 lakh out of the 6 lakh Government employees have been added in the last decade. Further, the Gujarat police force is the youngest in the nation and recruitment of constables, PSI and PI posts are done among youngsters well versed with technology. Shri Modi recalled his Google+ Hangout session that was seen from over 116 nations and stressed on the importance of technology among the youth.
At the Yuva Parishad Shri Modi made 3 important announcements. He announced the creation of Vinchhiya Taluka from 26th January 2013.
Shri Modi announced a 25% rise is FSI for Rajkot city and permission for 1+4 instead of the existing 1+3 for Jamnagar.
The Chief Minister declared rise in recruitment age bar from 25 to 28 and announced that SC/ST candidates will get benefit for further 5 years.
Thanking well wishers for the wishes he has received for his birthday, Shri Modi asked the youth to read the 3 letters of appreciation he got from legal luminary Justice Krishna Iyer and former CVC N Vittal. He said that these letters show how the world is seeing Gujarat and is something anyone would be proud to read.
