All government decision should have core focus on public interest: Hon'ble CM

Interest of the public should be at the core of all government policies and not the political mileage they can fetch. While addressing the interactive session on good governance, held at Gandhinagar today as a part of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi also pitched for reforms in the electoral process saying that frequent elections at regular interval makes it difficult to maintain consistency in the process of growth.

“It should be onus of the government that it completes the entire term it is elected for. Further, it should take all the decisions in the interest of the public without any consideration for favorable outcome in the election,” he said.

He was of the opinion that if the government can win the trust of the people, it can easily ensure spontaneous public participation in all of the government programs.

Citing Gujarat’s higher agricultural growth rate as one of the desired results achieved through good governance, he further said, “Gujarat has adopted mantra of P2 G2 for the good governance, which means pro-active pro-people good governance. This model has worked successfully & set example to follow.”

“The leadership can only set framework for the good governance, but it is only the team work that can produce desired results. The team Gujarat has collectively implemented all of the government decisions and as a result, the effectiveness of the government administration has reached to a new level,” he added. Giving an example of such approach, he cited Chintan Shibir as the best exercise for taking policy decision.

While taking part in the discussion, Gujarat’s Chief Secretary Shri A. K. Joti mentioned some achievements the state has made on fronts such as rural development, education, agriculture and so on thanks to good governance.

Shir P. N. Roychaudhri, Principal Secretary; Shri P. K. Lehri, former Chief Secretary; Smt. Manjula Subramanyam, Vigilance Commissioner; Dr. D. R. Kartikey; Dr. Madhav Mehra, Dr. Samir Barua; Dr. Bakul Dholakia and Dr. Tanuja Agarwal also took part in the discussion and expressed their views on the subject.

QuoteSemiconductor mission: Consistent momentum

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today approved the establishment of one more semiconductor unit under India Semiconductor Mission.

Already five semiconductor units are in advanced stages of construction. With this sixth unit, Bharat moves forward in its journey to develop the strategically vital semiconductor industry.

The unit approved today is a joint venture of HCL and Foxconn. HCL has a long history of developing and manufacturing hardware. Foxconn is a global major in electronics manufacturing. Together they will set up a plant near Jewar airport in Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority or YEIDA.

This plant will manufacture display driver chips for mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, PCs, and myriad of other devices that have display.

The plant is designed for 20,000 wafers per month. The design output capacity is 36 million units per month.

Semiconductor industry is now shaping up across the country. World class design facilities have come up in many states across the country. State governments are vigorously pursuing the design firms.

Students and entrepreneurs in 270 academic institutions and 70 startups are working on world class latest design technologies for developing new products. 20 products developed by the students of these academic students have been taped out by SCL Mohali.

The new semiconductor unit approved today will attract investment of Rs 3,700 crore.

As the country moves forward in semiconductor journey, the eco system partners have also established their facilities in India. Applied Materials and Lam Research are two of the largest equipment manufacturers. Both have a presence in India now. Merck, Linde, Air Liquide, Inox, and many other gas and chemical suppliers are gearing up for growth of our semiconductor industry.

With the demand for semiconductor increasing with the rapid growth of laptop, mobile phone, server, medical device, power electronics, defence equipment, and consumer electronics manufacturing in Bharat, this new unit will further add to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
