Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, mentioned about the strength of India’s democracy. He said that India has the distinction of being named as the ‘Mother of Democracy’.

He said that it was the strength of India's democracy that a small child who once helped his father at a 'Tea stall' at a railway station, was addressing UNGA for the fourth time as the Prime Minister of India.

Referring to his 20-year long career as Gujarat’s Chief Minister and Minister of India, PM Modi said, “I have been serving the countrymen in the role of Head of Government for 20 years. And I am saying this from my experience- Yes, Democracy Can Deliver. Yes, Democracy Has Delivered.”

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid homage today to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue in the historic Promenade Gardens in Georgetown, Guyana. He recalled Bapu’s eternal values of peace and non-violence which continue to guide humanity. The statue was installed in commemoration of Gandhiji’s 100th birth anniversary in 1969.

Prime Minister also paid floral tribute at the Arya Samaj monument located close by. This monument was unveiled in 2011 in commemoration of 100 years of the Arya Samaj movement in Guyana.
