Sri Lankan leaders today appreciated PM Narendra Modi for partaking in the International Vesak Day

President Maithripala Sirisena welcomed and expressed his thanks to Prime Minister Modi for joining the celebrations in Sri Lanka.He spoke about the rich teachings of Lord Buddha and how it strengthens the society even today.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe thanked PM Narendra Modi for being the Chief Guest at the International Vesak Day celebrations. Recalling Lord Buddha, he added that his teachings were relevant even in today’s world and showed moderate path and need to consolidate social justice. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, Mr. Wickremesinghe said, “Buddhism is the most tremendous religious movement that the world ever saw, the most gigantic spiritual wave ever to burst upon the human society.”

N Buddhashasana, Minister for Justice, Sri Lanka too thanked Prime Minister Modi for gracing the inaugural event. He said, “It bears ample testimony to your great reverence for Buddha and his teachings. Your Excellency Narendra Modi, for us in Sri Lanka, you are one of ours. I am confident that our assembling today and in the next few days would undoubtedly strengthen the bond of our brotherhood, unity and inter-religious harmony.”

First such instance that a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will attend the Christmas Celebrations hosted by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) at the CBCI Centre premises, New Delhi at 6:30 PM on 23rd December.

Prime Minister will interact with key leaders from the Christian community, including Cardinals, Bishops and prominent lay leaders of the Church.

This is the first time a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India.

Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) was established in 1944 and is the body which works closest with all the Catholics across India.
