Beware of Congress-AIUDF 'Mahajoth' as it's 'Mahajhoot': PM Narendra Modi in Assam

PM Modi today addressed public meetings in Bihpuria and Sipajhar in Assam ahead of assembly elections. Addressing a mega election rally in Bihpuria, PM Modi raised the issue of illegal immigrants and blamed the previous Congress for the influx. He said, “The incumbent BJP government has tackled the issue of illegal immigrants. The Satras and Namghars of Assam which were captured by illegal immigrants during Congress rule are now free from encroachments.”

PM Modi invoked the legacy of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev and Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhavdev in Bihpuria. "I bow down to the land blessed by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev and the birthplace of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhavdev. The people here are bestowed with great spiritual heritage.” he said.

Taking a jibe at Congress party for forming an alliance with Badruddin Ajmal led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), PM Modi asserted, “Congress has joined hands with people whose aim is to destroy Assam's identity. Do you want Assam's traditions to be ruined? Congress taking help from a group that promotes infiltrators. Today there's development in Assam, it's free from infiltrators.”

In the first leg of campaigning in Bihpuria, PM Modi highlighted, “The poor people in every region of Assam have LPG gas connections. LPG coverage in Assam has increased from under 50% to nearly 100% in just 5 years. In 70 years, Assam had seen the development of just 13,000 kms of roads in the state. In the last five years, we have built nearly 15,000 km of rural roads. 700 km of new roads have been built only in Lakhimpur.”

“I can assure you that the decisions we have taken for those working in Tea Garden will be implemented as soon as the NDA government is formed again. In just 5 years, the NDA government has increased the wages of tea workers to double.” he added.

Talking about the development work done in the last five years in Assam, the PM asserted, “In five years, we have already built 8 medical colleges. This will provide you better medical care and opportunities to our youth studying medicine. Under the PM Awas Yojana, over 5.5 lakh houses have been approved. Several beneficiaries have already received their houses.”

Saluting the contribution of Assam Rifles in Indian Army, PM Modi stated, “Today is the 186th raising day of Assam Rifles. It has a proud history of protecting this country. Today I salute Assam Rifles and express my gratitude to them, from this land of Assam.”

Speaking at the rally in Sipajhar, Prime Minister Modi highlighted, “We had developed bridges of peace in Assam. Even after decades of governance of Congress, only three major bridges could be built in Assam. But during the six years of NDA governant here several bridges, including Dhola Sadiya, Bogibeel, Saraighat have started functioning.”

Slamming the opposition, he said, “In the last 5 years, violence and revolts in Assam have ended. Under Congress, it was very regular. It still takes place regularly in Bengal where an Opposition party is sitting for the last 10 years.”

Talking about BJP’s manifesto of Assam, he asserted, “Five years ago, we had come to you with a promise of transformation. Today, we have come with the belief of swift development riding on a double-engine government. Our manifesto will bring prosperity for the people of Assam.”

He said, “Congress wants Assam's governance to loot the state. We want to govern the state to serve the people. We want every poor to get a house, every house gets a gas and tap connection - this is our priority.” He also cautioned people of Assam to be careful with the Congress and urged them to vote for BJP in upcoming assembly elections.
