Narendra Modi demands calling Chief Ministers’ meeting to discuss the recommendations of Sarkariya Commission on Centre-State relationship

NCTC order is Centre’s backdoor attack on the constitutional powers of the states: Guj CM

Criticizing sternly the Centre’s approach regarding NCTC Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said the NCTC order is a part of Centre’s well-thought-out machination to attack on the Federal spirit of the constitution and to snatch the powers of state governments.

Mr. Modi demanded to call forthwith a meeting of state’s Chief Ministers to discuss the recommendations of Sarkariya Commission on the Centre-State relationship.

The Central government is making backdoor attack on the constitutional powers of the states in a bid to acquire more powers for itself. This has posed a major threat to the democratic and federal structure of our nation, he said.

Mr. Modi pointed out that the Centre could have discussed with the states or could have called a meet of National Security Council before issuing NCTC order. But it has entirely neglected the constitutional powers of the states.

Stating that many states have already expressed displeasure over NCTC order he demanded to call a meet of state’s Chief Ministers to have national level discussion on the recommendations of Sarkariya Commission.

Chief Minister said the legislation like GUJCOC has been passed thrice inGujaratassembly but has not been approved by the Centre for last five years. Internal security is crucial forGujaratas it possesses a big coastline and shares international boarder. Considering this, Centre should give priority to GUJCOC as a part of national security. But, it is not ready to acceptGujarat’s democratic demand. This confirms Centre’s unjust and discriminatory approach towards the states.
