The Dawoodi Bohra community has organized a trade exhibition – ‘Burhani Trade Expo: 2011’ in Ahmedabad, to celebrate centenary birthday of their spiritual leader Dr.Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin. Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi while inaugurating the expo today called upon the Dawoodi Bohra people to transform the centenary celebration into a social welfare movement where the entire community works for the good of the society.

Shri Modi while extolling this initiative taken by the Dawoodi Bohra community said that Bohra community has always earned pride for Gujarat anywhere in the world it has gone.

“Leading an active life even at 99, Dy.Syedna Saheb is an inspirational force for others. He gave blessings when Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit was organized for the first time in Surat and today this investors’ summit has become ‘global’ in real sense”, Shri Modi said gladly adding that he has been fortunate to receive Dr.Syedna Saheb’s blessing every year.

Dawoodi Bohra community established its first university in 1920, which is even earlier than Gujarat Vidhyapith founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930. The community has always recognized the value of education which kept it away from vicious things. This is the sign of progressive society, Chief Minister said.

Chief Minister thanked the Dawoodi Bohra people for undertaking building check-dams for water conservation and appealed them to also undertake educating people regarding malnutrition.

Auzafabhai Saheb Momuddin, son of Dr.Syedna Saheb, said the Dawoodi Bohra community has always pushed the values of peace, harmony and coexistence. ‘The word ‘Bohra’ means ‘Tradesman’. And as the name says, the community has always contributed in the progress of Gujarat. Under Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership Gujarat is progressing rapidly’, he said.

Ahmedabad Mayor Shri Asit Vora, Former minister Shri Kaushik Patel, BJP leader Shri Jyanti Barot and leaders of Dawoodi Bohra community were present on the occasion.

India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble origins, he rose to become a respected economist. He served in various government positions as well, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on our economic policy over the years. His interventions in Parliament were also insightful. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives.

“Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji and I interacted regularly when he was PM and I was the CM of Gujarat. We would have extensive deliberations on various subjects relating to governance. His wisdom and humility were always visible.
