CM lays stone for Rs.130-crore housing projects of 3,100 units at Rajkot

Ahmedabad, Tuesday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narenrda Modi today laid foundation stone for two housing projects for the urban poor at Rajkot with a view to making Gujarat a slum-free state, to mark the birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay.

Mahanagar Seva Sadan has approved one project to build 2,624 residential units of 1BHK with modern toilet at a cost of Rs.82.75-crore on 82,650 sq m plot, each unit of costing Rs.3.37-lakh.

The other project is of 13-storied 416 units costing Rs.57.50-crore, each unit will have 1BHK with two balconies, store room and modern toilet, to be built on PPP model.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Modi said that Gujarat Government has decided to revive Gujarat Housing Board (GHB) constructing 7,000 residential units in four municipal corporation areas. This government has allocated 22-lakh residential units to BPL families during the last 11 years, including 16-lakh units during the last ten year, as against just 10 lakh units built during the previous rules.

Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala said that Rajkot Municipal Corporation has built 13,000 residential units so far as part of the state government’s policy to eradicate poverty, while another 2,000 units are being built now. Gujarat is developing fast without taxing people much. The nation can progress if made free of corruption. GHB Chairman Jayantibhai Barot said that the board has decided to go 13-storey flats as part of paradigm shift, looking to the needs of the time, to build more flats on same plot at affordable price. GHB is building 1,092 units at Vadodara, 630 units at Surat and 416 units at Ahmedabad.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Urban Development Minister Nitin Patel, Agriculture Minster Dilip Sanghani, BJP State President R.C. Faldu, ex-MP Vijay Rupani, MLAs Govind Patel and Bhanuben Babaria, Mayor Janak Kotke , Deputy Mayor Deepaben Chikani, GHB Commissioner A.K. Rakesh, Collector Dr Rajendra Kumar, Standing Committee Chairman Dr. Jaiman Upadhyay.

PM Modi meets the Amir of Kuwait

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met today with the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. This was the first meeting between the two leaders. On arrival at the Bayan Palace, he was given a ceremonial welcome and received by His Highness Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait.

The leaders recalled the strong historical and friendly ties between the two countries and re-affirmed their full commitment to further expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation. In this context, they agreed to elevate the bilateral relationship to a ‘Strategic Partnership’.

Prime Minister thanked His Highness the Amir for ensuring the well-being of over one million strong Indian community in Kuwait. His Highness the Amir expressed appreciation for the contribution of the large and vibrant Indian community in Kuwait’s development.

Prime Minister appreciated the new initiatives being undertaken by Kuwait to fulfill its Vision 2035 and congratulated His Highness the Amir for successful holding of the GCC Summit earlier this month. Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude for inviting him yesterday as a ‘Guest of Honour’ at the opening ceremony of the Arabian Gulf Cup. His Highness the Amir reciprocated Prime Minister’s sentiments and expressed appreciation for India's role as a valued partner in Kuwait and the Gulf region. His Highness the Amir looked forward to greater role and contribution of India towards realisation of Kuwait Vision 2035.

 Prime Minister invited His Highness the Amir to visit India.
