On Tuesday 12th June 2012, Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the police passing parade in Vadodara. Shri Modi gave an inspiring speech to the youngsters and also shared insights into the some of the efforts to modernize Gujarat’s police force.

The Chief Minister congratulated the youngsters and said that such trainings are trainings for life and not a mere 8-month affair. It is when we will incorporate the ideals of this training in our lives that the real meaning of the training will come out.

On the occasion, Shri Modi stated that the youngsters who passed out are privileged as they took their oath in the name of our Constitution and the Tricolour. He added that such oaths are not mere recitation of words but contain values that must be the driving force of our lives. He reminded that there were many individuals who gave up their lives for the tri colour and while we have not had that good fortune, we are atleast blessed to live for it. He described the Tricolour was the life of a billion Indians and was our pride.

In his speech, Shri Modi talked about the importance of ‘Last Mile Connectivity.’ He said that good governance is one that goes till the last man or woman. He cited the importance Gujarat has given to Anganwadis by adding dignity in them.

On Gujarat’s police, he said that there has been grass root level recruitment and Gujarat’s police force is the youngest police force as compared to the rest of the country. He declared that over the past few years a qualitative change has come about in the police force. He shared that among the 419 pass outs of the day’s parade, 410 are either graduates are post-graduates. With such a competent police force, a qualitative change is bound to come, Shri Modi said.

Speaking on the importance of technology, Shri Modi said that Gujarat has made path breaking efforts to enhance Human Resource Development through technology be it through Raksha Shakti University, Forensic Science University or training in crime detection.

The Chief Minister further pointed out that 26,000 recruitments were made over the past few years and it was a matter of great happiness that the taint of corruption has not come on the Gujarat police force. Even the process of recruitment has been fair and now children of poor, widows are getting opportunities to serve the nation, Shri Modi added.
