Addressing a huge gathering at the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, US President Trump said, “The story of the Indian nation is a tale of astounding progress, a miracle of democracy, extraordinary diversity, and above all, you are noble people.”

Mr. Trump said India gives hope to all of humanity. He said that in just 70 years, India became an economic giant, one of the largest democracies ever to exist and one of the most amazing nations anywhere in the world.

Appreciating India’s achievements, President Trump highlighted how under Prime Minister Modi, for the first time, every village in India has access to electricity. He said, “320 million more Indians are right now connected to the internet. The pace of highway constructions has more than doubled, over 70 million more households, think of this, have access to cooking fuel, 600 million more people have access to basic sanitation and incredibly, 12 Indian citizens are lifted out of extreme poverty every single minute of every single day.

India will soon be home to the biggest middle class anywhere in the world, and within less than 10 years, extreme poverty in your country is projected to completely disappear.”

The US President further said that the potential for India is absolutely incredible. He said India's rise as a prosperous nation is an example for every nation of the world and one of the outstanding achievements of the century. “It is all the more inspiring because you have done it as a democratic country, as a peaceful country, you have done it as a tolerant country, and you done it as a great, free country”, said President Trump.

PM Modi visits the Indian Arrival Monument
November 21, 2024

Prime Minister visited the Indian Arrival monument at Monument Gardens in Georgetown today. He was accompanied by PM of Guyana Brig (Retd) Mark Phillips. An ensemble of Tassa Drums welcomed Prime Minister as he paid floral tribute at the Arrival Monument. Paying homage at the monument, Prime Minister recalled the struggle and sacrifices of Indian diaspora and their pivotal contribution to preserving and promoting Indian culture and tradition in Guyana. He planted a Bel Patra sapling at the monument.

The monument is a replica of the first ship which arrived in Guyana in 1838 bringing indentured migrants from India. It was gifted by India to the people of Guyana in 1991.
