Describing the current national leadership directionless and depressing, Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narndra Modi today advocated the need for pro-people proactive good governance (P2G2) to solve the people's problems and fulfill their aspirations.

Addressing the inaugural session of the BJP two-day national conclave on 'Good Governance' in Mumbai, he said the current national leadership is restricted to trying to rise only after some misadventure and mishap. It is apparently bent on weakening the judicial and constitutional institutions.

He asserted that BJP-led governance in different states did get opportunity to provide good governance and they did deliver it. There is need to place these achievements before the public through evaluation by various universities and research institutions. There is also a need to get international recognition.

Talking about democratic governance and political will, he said the electorate gives a contract of sorts to the government to run its affairs for five years. In Gujarat, he said, the public-private partnership model has achieved wonderful results and has won people's trust on several issues.

He said that P2G2 models have worked in Gujarat because they are pro-people, development-oriented, transparent and open, not because they are popular and shortcuts to temporary success. There is not much scope for irregularities in transparent governance. There is also need for political will for effective governance.

He said that good governance requires actions and not speeches. Gujarat has seen the BJP's longest government in the country, as it is backed by team spirit, transparency, policy with human touch aptly recognized by a number of national and international awards.

Shri Modi said that children's Chacha Nehru could not improve the children's future, but Sardar Patel's concept of a United India and Lal bahadur Shastri's slogans like 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' have brought about Green and White Revolutions in the country.

BJP president Shri Nitin Gadkar inaugurated the conclave attended by Chief Ministers of eight BJP-ruled states, invited minister, national office-bearers and state unit presients.
