On his visit to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting in Jammu today.

Describing the numerous initiatives taken by his government in improving the infrastructure and quality of living for the people of Jammu, PM Modi said, “Jammu will soon have its own AIIMS, an IIMC and an engineering college as well as five more medical colleges will also be operational in Anantnag, Baramulla, Doda, Kathua and Rajouri, which will not only ensure superior healthcare services for the people but will also open up several opportunities of quality education and employment for the local youth.” He further told that his government has also sanctioned a package of Rs. 40,000 crore to enhance connectivity and strengthen the infrastructural capacity of Jammu.

Addressing the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community in Jammu, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the commitment of his government towards their concerns and issues. He said that this issue is a deeply emotional one for him and so his government is devoted to ensuring dignity, respect and safety of their rights. In this context, he reminded people of the significance of the recently-held Panchayat elections in the state saying, “All of us witnessed the remarkable day when Panchayati elections were peacefully organised recently in this state, with an overwhelming 70 percent voter turnout. This is a historic milestone in strengthening democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.”

Speaking at length about his government’s commitment towards farmer welfare and empowerment, PM Modi highlighted the numerous initiatives taken by the Central government for the farmers in the last five years and more recently in the Interim Budget, saying, “For the first time ever in the history of this country has a government introduced such a comprehensive and historic scheme under which more than 12 crore farmer families, with a landholding of less than 5 acres, will be assisted with an amount of Rs. 6000 per year for the next five years and that money will be directly credited into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, thus leaving no room for corruption to take place.”

Concluding his address at the rally, PM Modi asserted his government’s priorities for farmers’ welfare while also highlighting the nation’s gratefulness towards the country’s Armed Forces for ensuring security for every Indian. Lastly, he reiterated his vision of building a ‘New India’ that is strong, safe and modern.
