Having acquired the reputation as one of the finest acting schools in the country, Anupam Kher launched the fourth chapter of his cting institute called 'Actor Prepares' in Ahmedabad. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the institute.

"There is a huge difference between popularity and respect. You will find many people around you who are popular, but not all will be respectable. And in order to be a respectable person, one needs to be trained, in whichever field one is," explained Kher at the event. Four years back Kher had launched his first acting institute in Mumbai, followed by other branchesin Chandigarh, London and now in Ahmedabad. "Many people ask me why I chose Gujarat as one of the centres for opening my acting institute and my answer is that Mehboob Khan, who is fondly known as the father of Indian cinema (best known for directing Mother India) belongs to Gujarat.

Hence I believe that Gujarat has a lot of talent, the only thing required is to bring it out by training them properly," said Kher. "It is said that economic growth has to be backed by cultural renaissance. My acting school will provide the same to Gujarat," he added. Congratulating Kher on the opening of his acting institute, Modi said, "Although the Gujarati film industry has not fared well in the last few years, if we have a look at the entire television industry, we may find that there are so many serials based on Gujarati families. Moreover, Mumbai also has a great market for Gujarati theatre. There is a need to revive the film industry in Gujarat." "Gujarat government has constantly believed in combining commerce with culture, trade with tradition and entrepreneurship with entertainment'. Life becomes hollow if either of these are lacking in life. I personally feel that Anupam Kher's institute will fill up the void that Gujarat has on the entertainment front," he added. The first batch of the acting institute currently comprises of 11 students, most of them belonging to the outskirts of Ahmedabad.

The timings of the non-residential institute will be 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. All the faculties of the institute are pass outs of National School of Drama (NSD) and Film and Television Institute of India, with Mita Vashisht heading the faculty team. Kher will himself be teaching the students for a week.
