Concept of old age homes like Shanti Niketan should be emulated elsewhere in the country: L.K. Advani

Need to restore glorious Indian family system, reduced to micro families over the ages: Narendra Modi

Ahmedabad, Monday: In presence of former Deputy Prime Minister and senior Member of Parliament L.K. Advani, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated modern Navdeep Residential Complex equipped with modern facilities for senior citizens on 2-lakh square feet area at Shanti Niketan Senior Living Complex in Adalaj area.

Both the leaders praised the contribution of the governing board of the complex comprising prominent citizens of Akhil Gujarat Charitable Trust in collaboration with Saraspur Seva Samiti.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Advani said that the modern concept of nuclear family has become a necessity in Indian society due to increasing generation gap at the cost of the traditional unique family system found nowhere else in the world. He wished the complex becomes a model for such efforts in the entire country.

Mr. Modi called for restoring the values of Indian families, including the neglected women and children. The winds of modernization have changed the composition and complexion of joint family into nuclear family into micro family set up. The victims are the children and senior citizens.

As against six crore people in Gujarat, he said, there are hardly 170 old age homes in the state. He wished efforts like this old age home should help restore India’s 5,000-year old social glory and a source of new energy and realization.

Earlier, Managing Trustee Utkarsh Shah presented the details of the project.
