Donors from Valsad donate Rs 61 lakh for relief of Uttarakhand victims

"Cheque of Rs. 61 lakh donated to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund"

MLA of Pardi Mr. Kanubhai Desai and district administration today met the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and handed over a cheque of Rs. 61,96,000 for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund with a view to help the Uttarakhand flood victims. The amount has been collected from the voluntary donations from various donors, organizations and industrial houses.

Chief Minister appreciated the gesture of Valsad donors of extending support to the victims.

District Collector of Valsad Vikrant Pandey and District Development Officer Udit Agarwal were also present on this occasion.

Prime Minister visited the Indian Arrival monument at Monument Gardens in Georgetown today. He was accompanied by PM of Guyana Brig (Retd) Mark Phillips. An ensemble of Tassa Drums welcomed Prime Minister as he paid floral tribute at the Arrival Monument. Paying homage at the monument, Prime Minister recalled the struggle and sacrifices of Indian diaspora and their pivotal contribution to preserving and promoting Indian culture and tradition in Guyana. He planted a Bel Patra sapling at the monument.

The monument is a replica of the first ship which arrived in Guyana in 1838 bringing indentured migrants from India. It was gifted by India to the people of Guyana in 1991.
