Gujarat has created pre-harvest and post-harvest infrastructure for farm sector, farming not left to vagaries of climatic: Narendra Modi

Chief Minister Narendra Modi todaysaid that Gujarat has created the right infrastructure for the agriculture sector for optimum utilization of the agro-climatic, soiland other factors. The farmers are no more left to the vagaries and uncertainties of the climate. TheannualKrishi Mahotsav being held across the state for the last eight years is also a gigantic stepin this direction.

Talking to farmers across the state on the occasion of Krishi Mahotsav-2012 through videoconferencing, he said the steps undertaken by the state government include preparations for land, water, seeds, fertilizers, sowing to harvesting, laying roads and marketing of agriculture produce to exporting.

While the nation’s agriculture growth is stuck at 3 per cent, he said, it was no miracle that Gujarat achieved 11 per cent growth. It was due to sustained efforts of the government for the last several years in creating the right ambiance and immaculate planning. The most important factor that worked in the exponential growth of farm sector in the state is according the status of serious economic activity.

Mr. Modi listed land preparation and deciding crop pattern as per agro-climatic zones, water conservation, water shed development, controlling brackish water, robust market, chain of godowns and cold storages as some of the other major steps.

He said that increasing the productivity of crops (production per unit of land) and production of cash crops with higher returns, making available the latest advancements in farm research to the farmers, providing electricity at the right time at minimum possible cost have been the concern of the government. The electricity board has set up about 175 sub-stations to check frequent tripping of transformers due to fluctuations in voltage and other irregularities.
