State government Spokesperson Jay Narayan Vyas today said that Union HRD Minister Kabil Sibal's allegation regarding Nanavati commission is an insult of the judicial mechanism of the nation.

Countering to Union Minister's allegation on Gujarat government which he made yesterday in Ahmedabad, Shri Vyas said the allegations made by a senior advocate like Sibal have raised the questions against the creditability of the judiciary system of India.

Giving details of the time taken by various probe panels during Congress rule, Spokesperson said that Justice Marwah Commission and Mishra Commission probing into the anti-Sikh riots of 1984 during the Congress rule in Delhi took 13 to 17 years to come up with the report. Proceedings of the Commission looking into Bhagalpur riots of 1989 went on for 21 years and yet trials are still pending for 26 cases which were reopened in 2006. “The Commission which was examining Mumbai riots of 1992 spent 14 to 19 years in hearings while the Commission probing into Rajiv Gandhi's assassination took years to come up with report.” What was the outcome of the Reddy Commission which was formed to probe into communal riots of 1969, he asked.

Not only that Union Minister's comments are unfair but it is also an insult of the Supreme Court, as the probe panels are being appointed in the headship of the retired judges of the Supreme Court.

Shri Vyas further said that the Nanavati Commission was formed as per the recommendations of the Apex Court. And it is the only Commission appointed by the state government which takes even the Chief Minister and other ministers under its ambit. The Commission has already examined 44,445 affidavits, questioned more than 1000 witnesses and has already given the part-1 of its report in 2008. It is inapprehensible that a senior advocate like Shri Sibal has not even took the working of the Commission into account before making his comment, Shri Vyas said.
