New Delhi, 15th March 2014: Bharatiya Janata Party in collaboration with Citizens for Accountable Governance announces the third round of “Chai pe Charcha”, a series of unique interactions between Shri Narendra Modi and the people of India. The theme for this episode is ‘Farmers and Agrarian Crisis’, and this round will be organized on 20th March, in Dabhadi village of Yavatmal district in Maharashtra.

The Indian agrarian sector is facing a sharp economic decline due to a variety of problems, especially relating to credit, input pricing, farming practices, marketing and social support structures. This has created major distress among farmers and has led to an epidemic of suicides in that section of the society. Farmer suicide has often been referred as “India’s shame”.

Looking to immediately address this serious issue, Shri Narendra Modi, in the next round of 'Chai Pe Charcha', will meet and interact with farmers directly to understand their problems and attend to their suggestions. This exercise will contribute to policy options on all facets of agrarian distress. Additionally, this session will also sensitize the nation to the severity of this current problem.

In line with the theme, this session will be organized primarily in rural locations. 90% of the locations for “Chai pe Charcha” will be rural areas.

Chai pe Charcha is a step in the direction of participatory democracy where people get a platform to engage with the elected representatives. The event has 3 key modules – Share, Ask and Suggest.

  • Using the ‘Share’ feature people are able to share stories of challenges and achievements.
  • Using the ‘Ask’ feature people are able to put across their questions to Mr. Modi
  • Using the ‘Suggest’ feature people are able to give solutions to the issues pertaining to women

The above features can be accessed using internet (www.indiancag.org/chaipecharcha), by calling/sms/whatsapp 07878782014, or using the Android app of Chai pe Charcha.
