Speaking at a public meeting at Jalandhar in Punjab, PM Narendra Modi said that it is the land of the courageous, the saints and the gurus.  He said that this time, election is about giving a renewed strength to Punjab.

Prime Minister Modi remarked that due to selfish interests, and lacking the will for proper discussion, some people are trying to humiliate youth of Punjab just because of political interests which is not good. “We always had and continue to have faith in Punjab's youth”, the PM added.

Launching attack on the Congress party, Shri Modi said, “In 2012 Congress was so overconfident about coming to power but we saw what happened. No one can ever underestimate the people of Punjab.”

Shri Modi alleged that Congress party can do anything for survival. “In the previous state elections, the Congress party allied with the Left in West Bengal against whom they contested for years. In Uttar Pradesh too, this time after attacking the Samajwadi Party, they have allied with them just when elections are about to commence”, Shri Modi said.

Prime Minister Modi also appreciated Punjab Chief Minister, Shri Parkash Singh Badal and said that he has always worked for the welfare of the state. The PM added, “Badal Sahab spent years in public life but never changed parties or compromised on ideals. The only thing that matters for him is Punjab. For Badal Sahab, what matters is the welfare poor, the farmers and the villages.”

Prime Minister Modi expounded about several initiatives undertaken by the Centre for transforming lives of people. He highlighted about the Government’s Ujjwala Yojana and the Housing for All initiatives. PM Modi also said it is the NDA Government at Centre that addressed the long-pending demands of the ex-servicemen and implemented the One Rank, One Pension’ scheme.

Shri Narendra Modi said that corruption had gripped the country severely and hampered its progress. “Our Government is fighting against corruption and has taken strong measures to tackle it. A few are feeling the heat too but our fight against corruption would not stop.” The Prime Minister urged for entire Nation’s support in fighting corruption and black money.

Chief Minister of Punjab, Shri Parkash Singh Badal, several party karyakartas and Union Ministers were present during the event.
