Chief Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi has invited Indian Planning commission to attend ‘Garib Kalyan Mela’. Planning experts must visit the event to gauge the strategic impacts of the exercise, which is aimed to usher in all-round development of poor and deprived classes. It is aimed to achieve the goal of inclusive growth, all-inclusive development; fruits of development must percolate down to the poor and deprived classes.

State has taken holistic approach for human development. The ‘Garib Kalyan Mela’ seeks to integrate various welfare schemes with a vision to achieve the goal of all-round development of poor people. The planning-experts must personally visit it to visualize the strategy of fighting penury, and the outcome.

Under the State-wide Abhiyan, Garib Kalyan Mela was held at Anand today. It had given scheme-benefits and kits worth Rs.90.15 crores to 47538 beneficiaries.

Under a special drive to allot residential plots to poor people, administration has taken up the task in a missionary zeal. They are making sincere endeavors to find Government land, also motivate home-less poor to avail the benefit of Aavas-Yojana. In four Talukas of Anand district, 17.50 hectare land -1.75 lakh Sq.Mts land- been allotted free of cost to appropriate beneficiary. The dream of having their own-home is realized. According to an estimate, the land cost is around Rs.3.75 Crores. In addition to that, State has also sanctioned an aid of Rs.8.19 crores for construction of the Dwelling-Units.

Chief Minister sought to express his indebtedness towards the citizens, “It is a privilege for me to have an opportunity to serve for the spell of 3000 days. We have launched an Abhiyan to battle out penury. We want ameliorate living conditions of poor and deprived classes. Gujarat celebrates 50th anniversary of attaining Statehood .Under the Abhiyan, 50 Garib Kalyan Mela are being organised to mark the Golden Jubilee of Gujarat. Garib Kalyan Mela delivers scheme-benefits straight in to the hands of poor people. It is aimed to empower 25 Lakh poor-beneficiaries across the State.”

Chief Minister asserted that State has single-mindedly focused the upliftment of poor and deprived classes. In past, Government Schemes were there, there existed the administration, despite huge budgetary spending poor people remained poor. The intended benefits did not reach identified beneficiaries. Planning-experts are deeply concerned about it. How to ensure that the appropriate beneficiary get the benefit without any hurdle or delay. Gujarat Government has taken effective steps, launched a State-wide Abhiyan of Garib Kalyan Mela. The poor beneficiary would no more be a victim of middlemen. We have ensured that the rights of poor-beneficiary are not snatched away by anybody, he added.

Former Prime Minister Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi had expressed his concern that the Rupee sanctioned by the Government, till it reaches up to the beneficiary, it is only 15 paisa reaching up to him. But no Government found solution to it. Present Government has ensured that the rupee sanctioned from Gandhinagar treasury, it reaches to the poor-beneficiary without any corruption. Chief Minister claimed that Garib Kalyan Mela is being organized with an aim to destroy the network of middlemen. He issued a public appeal that not a single paisa should be given to any middle-person.

He asserted that the Government sitting in Gandhinagar safeguards the rights of poor people. As soon as the Abhiyan of Garib Kalyan Mela completes, the entire budget for Social-Welfare is also finished. It is ensured that the appropriate beneficiary is getting the Scheme-Benefit.

State has adopted a unique strategy for poverty-eradication. Inclusive growth remains uppermost priority of present Government. He outlined various welfare schemes.

“State Government has given huge benefits to poor people. But the price-rise inflicted by the Centre nullifies the positive initiatives of State Government. From time to time, I have urged Central Government for taking effective measures to reduce prices. However, I regret that my appeal could not awaken the sensitivity of Centre. People are facing harsh-rigors of the price rise, “added C.M.
