UPA Government’s anti-farmer policies exposed once again!

No effort made by the UPA to increase production of fertilizers over the last 8 years

UPA makes efforts to ensure that Wal-Mart functions smoothly, but doesn’t care about its own farmers: CM

Agriculture Growth rate in the country, 3.3 percent, Rate of Increase in prices of Fertilizers, 300 percent!

The Congress party prides itself as being the custodian of the rights and interests of the farmers but a closer look at the last 8 years would reveal that among the many colossal failures of the UPA, one sector that is particularly hit due to the misgovernance of the UPA, it is the agriculture sector. Our hard working farmers toil for days but what do they get from the Government- unilateral export bans, rising prices and lack of any support!

Shri Narendra Modi has strongly attacked the Government for its anti-farmer mindset and has touched on various aspects of agrarian ruin under the UPA. Criticizing the Centre’s attitude Shri Modi said, “The rulers of Delhi don’t care if people of the country don’t have food, they promise one thing during the election but forget their promises after the elections are over. They are trying to fool the farmers; they try to get votes by talking about farmers but don’t care about them once the elections are over.”

One issue that Shri Modi has comprehensively covered during the election campaign is the UPA’s failure to prevent a sharp rise in fertilizer prices and the colossal failure of the Government to enhance production of fertilizers.

Fertilizers are very crucial to the farmers. Stressing on the importance of fertilizers, the CM said, “Farmers all over the country need fertilizers to save their crops, fertilizers are as important as air and water for crops.”

The Government has made no effort to increase production of Fertilizers.

The Chief Minister spoke about the Central government’s anti-farmer policies and said that the Central Government had made no efforts to increase the production of fertilizers in the past 8 years, this despite the fact that, all fertilizer factories are Government-owned.

He said that no new scheme had been introduced, no new factory had been planned and this had resulted in farmers struggling and being forced to buy fertilizers in the black market.

The CM said that if anyone was responsible for this atrocity, it was the Central Government.

Government makes efforts to ensure that Wal-Mart functions smoothly, but doesn’t care about its own farmers!

He criticized the Central government for being more worried about the smooth functioning of foreign chains like Wal-Mart but not caring about its own farmers. He said, “The Government is more interested in making sure that international chains like Wal-Mart don’t lose business but does not care if Indian shops close down and Indian farmers suffer.” The following table points to the increase in fertilizer prices, causing enormous hardship to the farmers.
Type of Fertilizer Price in 2010 Price in 2012
Urea 250 300
DAP 500 1250
NPK 425 1175
NPK 102626 400 1200
MOP 200-225 1000

Agriculture Growth rate, 3 percent, Price Increase rate, 300 percent!

Shri Modi has come out all guns blazing criticized the Central government for not being able to achieve an agriculture growth rate of more than 3 percent. He said that despite having perennial rivers, the machinery of the entire Central Government, all the UPA could manage is 2-3% agriculture growth and not to mention the exhorbitant rise in prices. On the other hand, Gujarat that was earlier known for perpetual droughts has shone in agriculture with a consistent 11% growth rate for the last decade. This would not have been possible without the inspiring leadership and vision of Shri Narendra Modi, who invigorated innovation and latest technology into agriculture. Today, the results are for all to see as Gujarat has emerged as a model state in agriculture.

Agriculture is the backbone of the nation. It is the largest creator of jobs among our people. But, the UPA’s attitude towards farmers leaves nothing to be desired.

Do the farmers of the nation deserve a Government in Delhi that conspires against their interests?
