Gandhiji made freedom a mass movement. We have to make development a mass movement: PM Modi
The skills of every Indian should be handy in furthering India’s progress: PM Modi

On several occasions, Shri Narendra Modi has talked about the invaluable and unparalleled contribution of Mahatma Gandhi to the freedom struggle.

During one of the programmes he said, “What was the greatest contribution of Mahatma Gandhi? That he made the freedom struggle as mass movement. He give every individual a piece of work which he or she was capable of executing. Through his persona he was able to create the thought in everyone’s mind that I am also fighting for the nation’s freedom.

It could be by wearing Khadi, by cleaning, by teaching poor children….everybody began to think I am an integral part of the freedom struggle. He created an atmosphere where every citizen of India contributes to the nation through his or her work. The same way, we have to make development a mass movement. The skills of every Indian should be handy in furthering India’s progress. That is when we can create the India of our dreams.”

While addressing BJP Karyakartas, he illustrated how Mahatma Gandhi reached out to people across all strata of society and integrated them in the movement to free India from colonialism. He urged party workers to do the same and integrate as many people as possible with the pro-people and inclusive ideology of the BJP.
