SCOPE: English Proficiency for All

Published By : Admin | October 26, 2012 | 17:01 IST

English is a widely used and globally accepted language. Be it government job or a job in corporate sector, knowledge of English language holds paramount importance. Understanding the importance of English, Shri Narendra Modi launched a novel initiative to help people learn the language; the initiative which is called SCOPE (Society for Creation of Opportunity through Proficiency in English). Through SCOPE, the state government aims at building English language proficiency among youth of Gujarat, thereby, enabling them to seek employment opportunities from a wider canvas.

Since its launch in 2007, SCOPE has trained around 3, 00, 000 learners of different age groups. Further, the initiative aims at training 5, 00, 000 youths in business English.  SCOPE is spread wide in the entire state with its learning centers aiding the youth in the remotest areas of the Gujarat, including the prisoners in jails. The program helps the learners to develop their skills in listening, speaking, reading and grammar.

Education and Skill development have always remained among the top priorities for Shri Modi. This can be visualized in the reduced number of school dropout rates through Kanya Kelavani and Shala Praveshotsav, and the rising numbers of Skill development initiatives in the state like eMPOWER, iCREATE, ITIs etc.

Do read an experience of a person who says SCOPE has touched his life in a great way.

"During my two and a half years association with SCOPE(TMPL), I came into contact with many students and parents. One thing was common amongst all, even in physically challenged students. I would always feel the vibe they are saying “Do not stop me, there is too much SCOPE”. I feel immensely happy that through SCOPE, I became instrumental in fulfilling the desires of aspirants."

PM Modi to visit Saudi Arabia from April 22-23, 2025
April 19, 2025

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will embark on a visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from April 22-23, 2025 at the invitation of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This will be the third visit of the Prime Minister to the Kingdom after his previous visits in 2016 and 2019. The visit follows the State Visit of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to New Delhi in September 2023 to attend the G20 Summit and co-chair the first meeting of the India-Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership Council.

India and Saudi Arabia share close and friendly ties with a long history of socio-cultural and trade contacts. As strategic partners, the two countries share strong bilateral relations across various areas including political, defence, security, trade, investment, energy, technology, health, education, culture and people-to-people ties. India’s relations with the Kingdom have evolved into a stronger and enduring partnership in the past decade, expanding into many strategic domains, with growing investment commitments, broadening of defence cooperation and intensive high-level exchanges across sectors.

The visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister reflects the importance India attaches to its bilateral relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It will provide an opportunity to further deepen and strengthen our multi-faceted partnership, as well as to exchange views on various regional and international issues of mutual interest.
