Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed vibrant public meetings in Shimla and Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, invoking nostalgia and a forward-looking vision for Himachal Pradesh. The Prime Minister emphasized his longstanding connection with the state and its people, reiterating his commitment to their development and well-being.

“When the country didn't even know Modi, I was among you. Times have changed, but Modi has not changed. Modi's relationship with Himachal remains the same,” PM Modi remarked.

Highlighting his continuous engagement with the state, PM Modi sought the people’s blessings for a third term of the BJP government. “Today, I have come to seek your blessings for the BJP government for the third time. I need your blessings to make India strong, to make India Viksit, and for a developed Himachal. Five phases of elections have already taken place in the country. A BJP-NDA government is assured. Now, Himachal will score a hat-trick with a 4-0 victory. Vote for those who will form the government. What is the point of wasting your vote? So, say with me, ‘Phir Ek Baar, Modi Sarkar.”

Addressing the strategic importance of Himachal Pradesh, a state bordering the frontier, PM Modi underscored the necessity of a robust government. “Himachal Pradesh is a state bordering the frontier. The people of Himachal understand the importance of a strong government. Modi will risk his life for you but will not let any harm come to you. The weak Congress government used to plead around the world. Modi says, why should India go to the world? India will fight its battles on its own.”

|

The Prime Minister also highlighted the infrastructural developments under his administration, contrasting them with the previous Congress regimes. “This is the same Congress that left the border areas of India to their fate. Modi has given many times more money than Congress. Today, hundreds of kilometers of new roads have been built along the border. Today, the lives of soldiers and our people living near the border have become easier.”

PM Modi highlighted the successful implementation of the One Rank One Pension scheme, a long-standing demand of military personnel fulfilled under his leadership. “Congress made military families yearn for One Rank One Pension for four decades. Congress used to say they would bring OROP by showing just 500 crores. This was a huge insult to our army because it was impossible to implement OROP with just 500 crores. It is Modi who has implemented OROP. Modi has given about 1.25 lakh crore rupees to former soldiers through OROP. That's why people say, Modi delivers what he guarantees.”

|

PM Modi also spoke about sensitive issues, accusing Congress and the INDI alliance of undermining the reservation system and conspiring against the Ram Temple. “I have come today to warn the people of Himachal about another conspiracy by Congress and the INDI alliance. These people want to completely abolish the reservation for SC-ST-OBC and give it to Muslims. Congress is also opposing the Ram temple. You people of Himachal tell me, did you feel good visiting Ram Lalla? But Congress cannot tolerate the Ram temple. Congress is conspiring to lock the Ram temple. Will you allow the Ram temple to be locked?”

|

Reaffirming his government's commitment to development, PM Modi listed the various initiatives taken for Himachal Pradesh, including the establishment of prestigious educational institutions and infrastructural projects. “No one thought that institutions like IIIT, IIM, and AIIMS could exist in Himachal. But with Modi, it is possible. Himachal has received a bulk drugs park and a medical device park. Himachal is among the first states in the country where the Vande Bharat train started.”

“Modi has guaranteed to make 3 crore sisters associated with self-help groups ‘Lakhpati Didis.’ Modi has also brought a big scheme to make your electricity bill zero. With the ‘PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana’ your bill will be zero, and you will also earn thousands of rupees. Just as Modi has fulfilled previous guarantees, Modi will fulfill these guarantees as well,” he added.

Addressing his second public meeting in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, PM Modi spoke about the aspirations of the youth and the importance of women's empowerment. He stressed the need for inclusive development and equal opportunities for all citizens.

|

PM Modi denounced the Congress party's regressive policies and divisive politics, calling for support to build a prosperous and united India. He said, “The Congress has not yet arrived in the 21st century. While people progress, Congress moves in the opposite direction. It's heading back to the 20th century. The Congress royal family is staunchly against daughters. The entire Congress is vehemently anti-women. But for my family in Himachal, listen to me carefully, and educate your daughters well. The assurance of providing them with an open and safe environment and offering them new heights is from Modi.”

“I have opened the doors of military schools and defense academies for daughters. The doors that were once closed for daughters in the army have also been opened. The number of women in central forces has more than doubled in ten years. Whether fighter pilots or passenger aircraft pilots, the coming five years are going to be a soaring flight for daughters. This is Modi's Guarantee,” he added.

|

Speaking about Congress’ misrule in the state and how his government took initiatives to preserve the state’s heritage, PM Modi said, “Modi government has vigorously promoted this heritage. Himachal's, the country's pride and prosperity, require your every vote. Congress is leading Himachal to ruin. So, it is necessary to stop it. I need your support to remove Himachal from the clutches of Congress.”

While concluding his address, PM Modi called upon the people of Himachal Pradesh to reject the Congress party's outdated ideology and support the BJP in the upcoming elections. He urged voters to elect BJP candidates to ensure continued progress and development in the region.

The World This Week On India
February 18, 2025

This week, India reinforced its position as a formidable force on the world stage, making headway in artificial intelligence, energy security, space exploration, and defence. From shaping global AI ethics to securing strategic partnerships, every move reflects India's growing influence in global affairs.

And when it comes to diplomacy and negotiation, even world leaders acknowledge India's strength. Former U.S. President Donald Trump, known for his tough negotiating style, put it simply:

“[Narendra Modi] is a much tougher negotiator than me, and he is a much better negotiator than me. There’s not even a contest.”

With India actively shaping global conversations, let’s take a look at some of the biggest developments this week.

|

AI for All: India and France Lead a Global Movement

The future of AI isn’t just about technology—it’s about ethics and inclusivity. India and France co-hosted the Summit for Action on AI in Paris, where 60 countries backed a declaration calling for AI that is "open," "inclusive," and "ethical." As artificial intelligence becomes a geopolitical battleground, India is endorsing a balanced approach—one that ensures technological progress without compromising human values.

A Nuclear Future: India and France Strengthen Energy Security

In a world increasingly focused on clean energy, India is stepping up its nuclear power game. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed their commitment to developing small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs), a paradigm shift in the transition to a low-carbon economy. With energy security at the heart of India’s strategy, this collaboration is a step toward long-term sustainability.

Gaganyaan: India’s Space Dream Inches Closer

India’s ambitions to send astronauts into space took a major leap forward as the budget for the Gaganyaan mission was raised to $2.32 billion. This is more than just a scientific milestone—it’s about proving that India is ready to stand alongside the world’s leading space powers. A successful human spaceflight will set the stage for future interplanetary missions, pushing India's space program to new frontiers.

India’s Semiconductor Push: Lam Research Bets Big

The semiconductor industry is the backbone of modern technology, and India wants a bigger share of the pie. US chip toolmaker Lam Research announced a $1 billion investment in India, signalling confidence in the country’s potential to become a global chip manufacturing hub. As major companies seek alternatives to traditional semiconductor strongholds like Taiwan, India is positioning itself as a serious contender in the global supply chain.

Defence Partnerships: A New Era in US-India Military Ties

The US and India are expanding their defence cooperation, with discussions of a future F-35 fighter jet deal on the horizon. The latest agreements also include increased US military sales to India, strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations. Meanwhile, India is also deepening its energy cooperation with the US, securing new oil and gas import agreements that reinforce economic and security ties.

Energy Security: India Locks in LNG Supply from the UAE

With global energy markets facing volatility, India is taking steps to secure long-term energy stability. New multi-billion-dollar LNG agreements with ADNOC will provide India with a steady and reliable supply of natural gas, reducing its exposure to price fluctuations. As India moves toward a cleaner energy future, such partnerships are critical to maintaining energy security while keeping costs in check.

UAE Visa Waiver: A Boon for Indian Travelers

For Indians residing in Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, visiting the UAE just became a lot simpler. A new visa waiver, effective February 13, will save Dh750 per person and eliminate lengthy approval processes. This move makes travel to the UAE more accessible and strengthens business and cultural ties between the two countries.

A Gift of Friendship: Trump’s Gesture to Modi

During his visit to India, Donald Trump presented Prime Minister Modi with a personalized book chronicling their long-standing friendship. Beyond the usual diplomatic formalities, this exchange reflects the personal bonds that sometimes shape international relations as much as policies do.

Memory League Champion: India’s New Star of Mental Speed

India is making its mark in unexpected ways, too. Vishvaa Rajakumar, a 20-year-old Indian college student, stunned the world by memorizing 80 random numbers in just 13.5 seconds, winning the Memory League World Championship. His incredible feat underscores India’s growing reputation for mental agility and cognitive excellence on the global stage.

India isn’t just participating in global affairs—it’s shaping them. Whether it’s setting ethical AI standards, securing energy independence, leading in space exploration, or expanding defence partnerships, the country is making bold, strategic moves that solidify its role as a global leader.

As the world takes note of India’s rise, one thing is clear: this journey is just getting started.
