Ahead of the Assembly election at the end of this month Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited Meghalaya. Addressing a public meeting in Shillong, he said, “Be it young or old, women or men, businessmen or government employees, farmers or laborers, all are saying in one voice- ‘Meghalaya Maange, BJP Sarkaar’. Meghalaya wants a stable government under the leadership of a strong party. That's why the lotus today has become a symbol of Meghalaya's strength, stability and peace.”

“Meghalaya today wants a people first government instead of family first. I am happy that the people of Meghalaya and North East are now coming with BJP,” he added.

Addressing the event, PM Modi iterated, “There is something special about this place. When I think of Meghalaya, I think of the talented people. I think of the vibrant traditions. I also think of the amazing natural beauty. We are all proud of Meghalaya’s culture.”

“The famous rock band Queen had a famous song- We are the champions. Today I could say- Meghalaya, you are the champions. I am here with a message of hope and development. India is scaling new heights of success. And, Meghalaya is making a strong contribution to it. We want to build on this further and work for the state,” he added.

Also, PM Modi took a dig at the opposition for abusing and cursing him, he said, “Opposition recite, 'Modi teri kabra khudegi', but people say 'Modi Tera Kamal khilega'.

He further added, “In the last 9 years, the BJP government at the Center has created new atmosphere in the North East. Now the fate of Meghalaya, North East is changing. We have laid emphasis on reducing the basic challenges of the people of Meghalaya and the North East. Today North East is becoming a strong pillar of India's Act East Policy. It is becoming a big center of trade and tourism.”

Addressing his second public meeting in Tura, Prime Minister Modi said, “BJP government in Meghalaya means fast development of Meghalaya, development of every region of Meghalaya without discrimination. BJP government in Meghalaya means freedom from bomb-blockade and violence. BJP government in Meghalaya means government supporting every region and every religion.”

Taking a dig at opposition for not giving permission to hold a public meeting, PM Modi said, “I do not want a ground for connecting with the people of Tura because people here have accepted me in their heart. The gesture of love and acceptance shown towards me by the people of Shillong and Tura is proof that Meghalaya wants a BJP government.”

Hitting out at Congress party, PM Modi said, “The Congress governments had considered this region as the last part of the country. While BJP considers North East as the growth engine of the country's development. Congress people used to remember Meghalaya only during elections. North East has been just an ATM for Congress and other parties. They used to loot your rightful money.”

Prime Minister Modi made a double engine pitch to urge people in Meghalaya to vote the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said, “Meghalaya will soon host a G20 meeting. People from many developed nations will visit Meghalaya which will embolden the state's image. People were only aware of Japanese Cherry blossoms but after I spoke in Mann Ki Baat about cherry blossoms from Meghalaya, people understood the potential of Meghalaya.”

Expressing his views on BJP’s agenda of Nation First and People First, PM Modi said, “When Father Alex Premkumar was kidnapped in Afghanistan. The kind of conditions that were there, anything could have happened to them. The BJP government pledged to return them securely, and it delivered on its commitment. Where the BJP government is formed once... people make it again and again. This happens because BJP does not discriminate on the basis of religion, creed, caste.”

Highlighting the centre’s development initiatives in Tura, PM Modi said, “Under the BJP government, neighbouring states of Meghalaya have achieved fast-paced development. Tribal villages in interior areas of Meghalaya got electricity for the first time, since independence, in the last 9 years. We have also allocated a surplus budget for road construction of villages and spent more than Rs 5,000 crore on constructing National Highways. We have also strengthened air connectivity for Meghalaya and are installing hundreds of 4G towers in tribal villages of Meghalaya.
